RDA SOUTH

The region covered by Regional Development Association South covers the territory of three administrative districts of Niš¡ava, Toplica and Pirot. Out of historical perspective, the region is positioned geostrategically on the centuries old crossroads between Europe and Asia. Famous Via Miliataris road went through Niš¡ and even today the remains of this road can be traced in Niš¡ and Pirot region. The road used to connect East and West Roman Empire. The remains of two Roman cities Naissus and Remisiana can be traced along the route of old Via Militaris.

Today, the Corridor X runs through the region and it branches out into motorway E-75 leading towards Thessaloniki and Athens and motorway E-80 leading towards Sofia and Istanbul. The Airport Constantine the Great, second largest airport by passenger and cargo transport in Serbia, has the special significance for the region.

One out of three most important state universities is located in this region. The University of Niš¡ with 13 faculties has the tradition 45-year long. We can positively say the there are highly qualified human resources in this region counting on rich industrial tradition and entrepreneurial experience.

The region is famous for its tourist attractions, the most important being Djavolja Varoš¡, Skull Tower Monument, Cave of Cerje and Stara Planina Mountain.
